Our Restaurant
A meal at Veggera is a feast of colours and tastes, of health and freshness.
The essential ingredients of our menu are our own virgin olive oil, the organically produced agricultural products of Crete as well as meat, eggs and dairy products from our farm (Kamihis Farm).
There is no exaggerated catalogue in our restaurant. It is a matter of self-respect and of respect to the customer.
The reason for this is quite simple. We want to offer you an authentic, freshly cooked homemade meal. That is why we cannot include 20 or more dishes in a single catalogue.
Zaros is a small village and customers are few. We do not want to serve you stale moussaka or yesterday’s stuffed vegetables and frozen souvlaki. When we opened in 2001 we made the decision to cook the way we cook at home.
Thus, 3 different menus of freshly cooked dishes are offered daily.
The menu
1. Full menu with fish
Amuse-bouche, Zaros mineral water, local bread and bakery products, soup, 2 appetizers, first course (different each day), salad, grilled fish, dessert, raki.
2. Full menu with meat
Amuse-bouche, Zaros mineral water, local bread and bakery products, soup, 2 appetizers, first course (different each day), salad, grilled or cooked meat, dessert, raki.
3. Full vegetarian menu
Large variety of vegetables, legumes, pasta, cheese products.
Every day we offer special Cretan dishes such as gardoumbakia (traditional lamb or goat offal dish), hohlioi (snails), omathies (traditional Cretan sausage with liver, spleen, herbs etc), menouza (traditional Cretan kokoretsi), giouvetsi with the head of the lamb, lamb belly with courgettes and tomato. These are the so-called Bizarre foods famous all over the world.
Have trust in our tradition, feel at home and give your palate a treat!
Cretan food and its recipes!
Many Cretans follow a naturally vegetarian type diet.
Due to the abundant consumption of fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs, the sole consumption of olive oil as well as the scarce consumption of meat.
In addition, our food cooked for the fasting periods is ideal for those who follow a Vegan diet.
